Failure Simulation and Pool-fire Radiative Effects on Nearby Process Units

چکیده
This manuscript shows how the connection and interaction between a process dynamic simulator and a dynamic accident simulator allow improving operators training, accident investigation, and safety management, by better modeling the feedbacks existing among process units and accidental events. In this perspective, the manuscript presents a rather simplified case study that allows simulating the process dynamic response to an industrial accident comprising a continuous leakage of flammable liquid, the pool spreading, and its final ignition and fire. Interactions between dynamic models of both process and the pool-fire allow investigating radiative effects on nearby process unit.

A New Investigation on Tunnel Pool Fire Phenomenon Using CFD Technique
In this study, the amount of generated pool fire, as a result of the release of chemicals in the case of an accident in tunnels, was simulated and the results were compared to the experimental data. At first, various amounts of spatial resolution (R*) were considered to compare the existing experimental data at different heights at the upstream, downstream and above the pool fire...

FRP (Fire Radiative Power) is the magnitude associated to the thermal radiance which explains the ecological effects of active fire; it is the component of the chemical power released from burning vegetation and emitted as radiation during the process of combustion. In this paper, a discussion of the procedures for active fire FRP is presented: The Dozier method, originally developed for use wi...
متن کاملSimulation of fire stations resources considering the downtime of machines: A case study
Considering the increasing growth of cities, population and urban fabric density, it seems necessary that emergency facilities and services such as fire stations are positioned optimally so that they can fulfill the demands well. The aim of this study is the optimization of equipment use in the fire stations, minimization the time to arrive at the incident through management of referral call to...
متن کاملRadiative effects of interannually varying vs. interannually invariant aerosol emissions from fires
Open-burning fires play an important role in the earth’s climate system. In addition to contributing a substantial fraction of global emissions of carbon dioxide, they are a major source of atmospheric aerosols containing organic carbon, black carbon, and sulfate. These “fire aerosols” can influence the climate via direct and indirect radiative effects. In this study, we investigate these radia...
متن کاملThe impact of aerosol optical depth assimilation on aerosol forecasts and radiative effects during a wild fire event over the United States
The Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation threedimensional variational data assimilation (DA) system coupled with the Weather Research and Forecasting/Chemistry (WRF/Chem) model was utilized to improve aerosol forecasts and study aerosol direct and semi-direct radiative feedbacks during a US wild fire event. Assimilation of MODIS total 550 nm aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrievals clearly improve...
